I’ve been awfully busy with patterns lately, but here was a request I couldn’t turn down! Knitted Knockers UK asked me if I had anything small that the volunteers could knit up quick to make and sell to raise funds for their work.
Knitted Knockers is a fabulous cause, they make 100% cotton knitted and crocheted prosthetic breasts to support ladies who have undergone Mastectomies and Lumpectomies. They create and send out the prostheses totally free of charge and I can tell you that they work tirelessly to do so, and their efforts are much appreciated by the recipients. If you’d like to find out more, take a look at the little piece I wrote earlier this year about their work.
Anyway I scratched my head a little, delved into my ideas bank (aka my brain!) and then came up with this little design. It’s the right size for little pocket tissue packs, the knitted cover stretches out just enough to hug them perfectly. I wanted the pattern to be really easy, so anyone at any level of skill could knit it and it would be quick to work up, but at the same time still look quite polished so it would be appealing on a craft stall. It really is very simple to make, just a knitted rectangle with a pretty knit and purl stitch pattern, with two easy straight seams. The end result is rather fetching and fun (I thought!).
As well as being slightly more unusual items to sell at craft fairs or fundraisers, I think these would also make great last minute gifts or stocking fillers.
The pattern is totally free of charge, and contains all the things I usually put in my patterns, all the instructions and general info, photos and helpful tips and illustrations to guide you.
If you enjoy knitting it and would also like to help Knitted Knockers UK, please do consider giving a small donation of £2 (which is a little less than I charge for most of my paid patterns) at the link provided in the pattern. Donations help the volunteers pay for cotton yarn and postage and ensure they can continue to help all the ladies who request their services.
You can download the pattern for free at the link below. Please enjoy!
