What We’re Working On

Ellen is currently working on…

My friends have a lot to answer for this week….

Not only am I still working on the Polska mittens and yellow top I showed you last week but now I’ve started two more projects!

One of my friends has been encouraging me for a while to try a granny stripes crochet blanket. I thought I was all blanketed out after the last big crochet project I finished up not long ago but I had a lot of varied DK weight acrylic yarn left over from other projects so it seemed a good thing to try to use those up. So I took the plunge! I’m following the granny stripes pattern by Lucy of Attic 24. And getting on quite well! I’m pleased. I had to go down a hook size, as for some reason this pattern I seem to crochet really loose where I normally crochet quite tight. I’m still learning with each project so that’ll be me figuring out my tension with different stitches I think. I’m just picking out each stripe colour as I go along and picking whatever looks like it will go best each time I change colour.

And…everyone but everyone seems to be making socks, including Deann, even she has been making her socks at me! So I couldn’t resist starting socks too. This yarn is from Blue Moon Fiber Arts, Socks that Rock Lightweight. I was gifted this as a prize in a vintage knit along contest last year. Originally I had made a small shawl with it, but I ran out of yarn just before the end and also the yarn and pattern weren’t a good pairing so I frogged it. I’ve decided just to make plain socks as the yarn is very busy and I think isn’t going to work too well with any patterning.

Both of these are nice easy projects to pick up and put down so fit in well with the other things I’m making.

Last Friday I asked you all to help me pick a sun hat pattern. Several patterns were suggested as the ones I should try, so I think I will try them each over the next couple of months. This week I am working with what I have at home, since I am still not able to drive yet. The two most suggested patterns call for fingering weight cotton and dk weight cotton, not sure where to get these yet. I do have a bag of worsted cotton on hand however so decided to start on this pattern:
